Non-invasive respiratory support strategies in preterm neonates: Systematic Review and Network Meta-analyses

In this pair of network meta-analyses of published experimental studies, we evaluated 7 different forms of non-invasive respiratory support (including High CPAP) when used as a primary form of support, or following extubation. We identified that while some modes may have a higher chance of success based on the available evidence, the certainty of the evidence ranges from very low to moderate. We also identified the following knowledge gaps (some of which our research team is tackling): (1) a dearth of evidence comparing non-invasive modes at equivalent pressures; (2) limited studies on High CPAP (a key focus of our research); and (3) limited data on neonates <28 weeks’ GA.
