McMaster Neonatal Respiratory Research Program

The over-arching goal of the McMaster Neonatal Respiratory Research Program is helping identify optimal non-invasive respiratory support (via nasal masks/prongs) for preterm neonates.

Our primary focus is on CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) strategies, especially improving our understanding of high pressures (≥9 cmH
2O) during CPAP. We have also an interest in NIPPV
(nasal intermittent positive pressure ventilation), and peri-extubation strategies with a focus on post-extubation non-invasive respiratory modes and settings to reduce extubation failure.

Our vision is to generate evidence that helps optimize clinical application of non-invasive respiratory support strategies towards improving clinical outcomes of preterm neonates.
